How To Automate Social Media Tasks Using Zapier
Automating repetitive tasks in your business frees your hands and mind to focus on what really matters: creating products and services, mapping out strategies and investing time in conversations with your customers, instead of wasting your time posting updates on social media.
Zapier is a tool that automates hundreds of repetitive, boring tasks and gives you the freedom to invest your time into the most rewarding actions inside your business.
So What Is Zapier?
Zapier is a tool that connects one service to another so that tasks can be automated between them. Zapier is an IFTTT (If This Then That) type of program that triggers a specific action based on your predefined rules. For example, you just finished writing a blog post and Zapier can trigger an action, such as sharing that post on Twitter and Facebook.
This kind of automation can be very powerful when you use it to link together over 400 apps in the Zapier database, such as WordPress, Google Docs, Evernote, MailChimp, Aweber, Dropbox, Trello and hundreds more.
Getting Started Using Zapier
First, you’ll open an account with Zapier and then you will be asked to link different apps to your account. These are the apps that you will tie together in so-called “zaps” These will be the basis of the ‘zaps’, or connections, you set up one by one.
Next, you will activate some zaps. You can create your own zaps using the “Make a zap” link. But, often the zaps you’d like to create have already been made by others, so you just need to sign up to those. When you find a zap you’d like to use, turn it on and customize it your way.
Here are two very popular examples of zaps:
- Add your Facebook Page posts to Buffer
Buffer is a social media management tool that allows you to share your updates across multiple social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. This zap will take each one of your Facebook Page update and add it to your preferred Buffer stream. This gives you the freedom to share your update on Facebook and then let Zapier tell Buffer where it should distribute your post and at what time.
- Share new WordPress posts to your social media accounts
You’ve just written a great post on your WordPress site and now it’s time to distribute it across social media. Zapier allows you to quickly do this by choosing an existing zap or creating your own.
Here are some popular WordPress-to-social-media zaps:
- Share WordPress posts to LinkedIn
- Buffer your WordPress posts
- Tweet Your New WordPress Posts Automatically
- Automatically Post New WordPress Posts to Facebook Page
There are way more options for you to automate your social media tasks. With over 400 apps to choose from, the possibilities are virtually endless. Download Zapier’s beginner’s guide to zapping, available here.
The zaps I have mentioned in the examples above are just a fraction of what you can accomplish with this powerful automation tool. Check out this cool example of what a powerhouse user can do with Zapier, Trello, Evernote and Google Calendar.
