Three Steps To Turning Your Passion Into A Full-Time Business

Do you know that more than 80% of people are unhappy with their current jobs and spend their lives in quiet desperation doing something they hate? Worse, they go from paycheck to paycheck, sucking it up and feeling relieved that they still have a job, given the state of the economy.

The good news is: you don’t have to continue living like this! There is a better way: building an online business. If you’ve ever been tempted to ditch your 9-5 job and become your own boss, then this article is for you!

Here are the three key steps to start an online business doing what you love and adding real value to the market:

Step 1: Find People’s Problems And Solve Them.

The basic definition of business is to solve other people’s problems for a profit. Anybody with a computer and an internet connection has the opportunity to go into business for themselves with very little startup capital. Yes, including you!

What would you love to do on a daily basis using both your skills and interests that will add value to other people’s lives? When you know how you can add value to people’s lives, you’ll know how to make money.

Whatever works best for you, believe that there is a market that can benefit from your passion, skills and knowledge. In other words, you can put together everything you’ve got to create a profit by giving people something they need or want.

Here is an example:

  • Passion: outdoor activities, photography
  • Skills: taking breathtaking macro shots and researching the best hiking routes
  • Profit: publishing photo-stories with your pictures and detailed description of your hiking trails

Remember, people pay for support. Find all the areas where you can support other people. Continually reflect upon and answer these two questions:

  • Where do my (potential) customers need support?
  • What other products can I create (or promote) that will improve their lives?

Once you identify a group of people with a common problem, you can begin to select products or services as a solution to that problem. Then, all you need to do is put these products or services offers in front of your target audience.

Step 2: Provide Genuine Value.

Be a giver. Create premium content, whether it’s in the form of podcasts, videos, photos, infographics, blog posts, whatever helps you to communicate your message in a clear and concise manner.

Get to know people and think about their problems. Put yourself in their shoes and try to understand them from their own level. Only then will you be able to provide a unique solution to their needs or wants and fill in the gap between where they are and where they want to be.

Step 3: Find A System That Works.

In order to scale and automate your money-making activities, such as creating content, collecting leads, networking, etc, you need to systematize your entire work process. Find a fully tested and proven system and create predictability in your online business.

Your goal is to automate as much of your business as possible and leverage all the tools available to you, and most importantly, your time.

The three most important parts of any business are:

  • List Building – Use your website to attract potential customers to your newsletter and into your sales funnel.
  • Email marketing – nurture your relationship with these people and give them real value over time.
  • Product Creation – create your own materials and grow your sales exponentially by repeat business, up-selling and referrals.

You want to build a structure, a real blueprint, for your online business. This helps you to automate most of the tasks and it also ensures that if you follow-up consistently, you will reach your goals.

Summing Up

Remember the world of famous Zig Ziglar, which perfectly illustrates success in any business: “you will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” It really is that simple.
